NAM in the News Update: Justice Karla M. Moskowitz Presented With the Award of Special Recognition by the NYWBA

On Tuesday, June 12th, NAM neutral, the Honorable Karla M. Moskowitz, was presented with the New York Women's Bar Association's (NYWBA) Award of Special Recognition at the Association's 2018 Annual Awards and Installation Dinner. The event was held at Tribeca 360°, New York, NY, honoring Justice Moskowitz's illustrious and longstanding legal career and her many decades of service to the NYWBA.

More than 300 colleagues, family and friends, including NAM neutral, the Honorable Peter B. Skelos, NAM's Vice President of Business Development, Farrell McManus and New York State Attorney General, Barbara Underwood, attended the annual awards ceremony.  Celebrating the occasion with Judge Moskowitz was her husband, Marvin and her son and daughter, Eric and Amy.

Prior to joining NAM, Justice Moskowitz spent 10 years as an Associate Justice of the New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, 1st Department. She was appointed to the Appellate Division in 2008 where she served until her retirement in 2017.

Having served as a past president of the NYWBA, Justice Moskowitz has been a member of the organization since graduating from Columbia Law School in 1966. She has founded and chaired several Association committees, including those on the legal referral services and child care.

Justice Moskowitz is a staunch supporter of women's rights and diversity in the workplace. She has been the recipient of numerous honors and awards for her advocacy from a variety of institutions, including the Abigail Allen Award from Alfred University (her alma mater), the Edith I. Spivack Award for the Women's Rights Committee of the New York County Lawyer's Association, the Founders Award of the Women's Bar Association of the State of New York and the Women of Valor Award of Women's Medical Association of New York City.

In 2018, Justice Moskowitz was appointed Special Master of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, First Judicial Department for the pre-argument mediation program. She is also an active member of the Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association. She is a frequent lecturer on a myriad of topics including diversity and inclusion in the workplace, civility in the courtroom, commercial litigation, and e-discovery.

Hon. Karla Moskowitz is available to arbitrate and mediate cases throughout the New York Metro area.
