Lunn is a seasoned mediator and arbitrator, former Associate Justice of the Appellate Division, Second and Fourth Departments, Justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Monroe County, and private legal practitioner. He has presided over thousands of matters across a wide range of case types including personal injury, property damage, insurance coverage, sexual abuse, contract disputes, construction and real estate disputes, commercial and business disputes and labor law matters. Judge Lunn has been recognized for the quality of his judicial and legal work from a variety of organizations including the Monroe County Bar, the Greater Rochester Association of Women Attorneys, and the Rochester Black Bar Association.
In January 1995, Judge Lunn was elected to the Supreme Court of the State of New York for the Seventh Judicial District, with primary chambers in Monroe County, Rochester, where he served as a trial court judge for 10 years presiding over all types of cases including personal injury, commercial and matrimonial matters. During this time, Judge Lunn also spent several terms in New York County presiding over personal injury, medical malpractice and legal malpractice cases. In 2005, he was appointed by then Governor George Pataki to the Appellate Division where he spent 4 years as an Associate Justice for both the Second and Fourth Judicial Departments. In 2008, Judge Lunn retired from the bench to return to private practice where he actively mediated and arbitrated a multitude of cases at the request of law firms and attorneys throughout New York City and Upstate New York, in addition to managing a diverse caseload comprised of personal Injury, commercial and insurance related matters.
His knowledge, skill, and efficacy has made him an exceedingly effective neutral. He has successfully mediated a wide spectrum of notable cases including disputes arising from Hurricane Sandy, Sandy Hook, Diocese sexual abuse claims and high-profile entertainment/music industry claims.
Judge Lunn served on the Task Force Committee of the State Association of Justices of the Supreme Court to study the proposed restructuring and consolidation of trial courts, and has lectured on trial related mattters to the New York State Bar Association and other local bar associations.
As an accomplished writer, Judge Lunn has been a contributing author in three books with Thompson Reuters, including “Bench Book for N.Y. Judges,” “New York Pattern Jury Instructions,” and the “New York Pattern Jury Instructions Companion
Handbooks.” Additionally, he has been a bi-weekly columnist for the Daily Record. He is involved in the community, with frequent guest lectures to area bar associations and high schools and is a board member of multiple charitable organizations.
Judge Lunn is available to arbitrate and mediate matters in the Greater Rochester area and throughout New York State.
